Teaching Indigenous Languages

Multilocus Interactive has a long involvement in the design and development of interactive learning resources that can be used to support the teaching of Australian Indigenous Languages.

In 1998 we worked with the Ngalangangpum School, Warlawurru Catholic School, Birlirr Ngawiyiwu Catholic School and the Aboriginal Student Support and Parents Awareness Program Committees for Turkey Creek, Red Hill and Kundat Jaru Communities to produce the “Kimberley Language Program” CD-ROM a resource for the Kija and Jaru languages.

Between 1998 and 2000 we worked with the Catholic Education Office of Western Australia, Yakanarra Community School, Kururrunku Catholic Education Centre, John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School and Wulungarra Community School to produce a three CD-ROM set called “Learning Walmajarri”. In May 2001 at the 19th Annual ATOM Awards for Film, Television, Radio and Multimedia held at the Hotel Sofitel in Melbourne, Multilocus received an ATOM for Best Indigenous Resource for the CD-ROM “Learning Walmajarri 2”.

From mid 2003 to mid 2005 Multilocus worked with eight language groups from across Australia to produce "Eight Indigenous Language Teaching Resources". Each of the eight resources includes an interactive CD-ROM and hard copy Teacher’s Guide. In November 2006 these eight Indigenous language teaching resources won the Best Indigenous Resource category in the 2006 ATOM Awards for Film, Television, Video and Multimedia.
